Our Lady of Mount Carmel
About Our Patroness

The Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the beloved Patroness of the Carmelite Order, with a tradition of devotion tracing back to early hermits in the Holy Land.

For our parish community, Mary is not simply a figure of devotion—she is our Mother, Patroness, and model of discipleship who continually points us towards her Son, Jesus Christ.

Mary teaches us to:

Pray with deeper faith and trust in God.
Proclaim Christ through our words and lives.
Empower one another through love, service and fellowship.
Say "Yes" to God as she did.
Listen to God's Word and treasure it in our hearts.
Follow Christ with humility, courage and love.

The Brown Scapular

The Brown Scapular

The most recognizable symbol associated with Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the Brown Scapular. According to Carmelite tradition, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock on 16 July 1251, giving him the Scapular as a sign of her maternal protection.

It reminds us of Mary's loving presence and calls us to imitate her life of faith, humility, obedience and openness to God.

Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

The Feast Day

Celebrated every year on 16 July, this is one of the most important feasts of the Carmelite Order and a special day of celebration for devotees throughout the world.

"For our Parish, the Feast is a particularly joyful celebration — an opportunity to renew our devotion to Mary and seek her maternal guidance."
